I just became liberated from the invasive (although effective) Drug Court program. If you’ve been in Drug Court, you know what type of things I’m referring to. If you’ve never been in Drug Court, it basically consists of:

Frequent random drug testing

A “P.O.” type of person to report to

Monthly court dates to report to

Group and/or private counseling sessions

Curfew

Restriction from Head Shops, and places that serve alcohol

Yeah, there’s no fucking up in Drug Court. It consists of three phases; if you fail in any phase, you must restart your time in that phase. The whole shebang is about 13 months. Thirteen months of no Ganja, for sure. However did I deal with this long, dreaded, 13 months without the drug I was so “hopelessly addicted to”? Umm…by not smoking it? It’s not that hard, but damn it, it’s fun to; naturally I’ll feel the urge to from time to time. Still, though, I resisted, and made it through those 13 months with but one slip-up. I was about a month in, and was having a rough time and decided to get stoned…well, that set me back a month, and I went through the rest of the time without puffing the magic dragon. After all of this, I decided to post my thoughts on pot via blog format for the world to see. Why? Because I can, bitch. I made it through, and I’m celebrating the freedoms of…uh…freedom? Damn, put the pipe down. If you’re interested in all things related to Ganja, you’ll probably like this blog–if you can remember the address to it.

This is just fucked up…just goes to show what happens when you elect bastards into office. In Hailey, Idaho (January 24th) the City Council sought to nullify a Decriminalization initiative passed by voters last November. The initiative was very similar to ones passed in other cities such as Seattle WA, Denver CO, Missoula MN, Santa Cruz CA, and Columbia MO. It also included a provision for Medical Marijuana and industrial Hemp. Well, the City Council argued that the initiative conflicts with State and Federal law, and added that the city is not legally required to accept the outcome of voter initiatives.

Not required? Bunch of assholes, huh? I mean, come on now. These guys are elected to serve the people–not to just choose what they want to uphold and what they don’t. Doesn’t democracy work anymore?

Presidential Candidate Barack Obama Backs Federal Decriminalization -- “I think the war on drugs has been a failure, and I think we need to rethink and decriminalize our marijuana laws.”

January 31, 2008 - Washington, DC, USA

Washington, DC: A newly discovered video of a 2004 appearance at Northwestern University by Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama, in which he calls for the federal decriminalization of marijuana, was posted online today by The Washington Times. In that appearance, Obama states, "I think the war on drugs has been a failure, and I think we need to rethink and decriminalize our marijuana laws." Obama continued, saying that while he supported decriminalization, he did not support the full legalization of marijuana.

In contrast, Senator Obama appeared to oppose decriminalization in a 2007 Democratic primary debate when MSNBC moderator Tim Russert asked candidates who opposed then-candidate Senator Chris Dodd’s support of decriminalization to raise their hands. In the video, Senator Obama is seen hesitantly raising his hand halfway before quickly lowering it again.

When asked about the two different answers, Senator Obama’s campaign stated that he has "always" supported decriminalization, and that Obama misunderstood the question when he raised his hand in the debate. In that same statement, Obama’s campaign reiterated the Senator’s opposition to full legalization, but said that an Obama administration "will review drug sentences to see where we can be smarter on crime and reduce the blind and counterproductive sentencing of non-violent offenders."

"It appears Senator Obama, alone among the major candidates for the presidency, has the courage to state the obvious: it is time that we stopped treating responsible marijuana smokers like criminals," said NORML Executive Director Allen St. Pierre. "According to a recent CNN/Time Warner poll, 76% of the American people agree with Senator Obama, as well as the 48 million Americans who smoked marijuana last year."

Democratic rival Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign stated that she opposes decriminalization. On the Republican side, Senator John McCain opposes decriminalization, while former Utah Governor Mitt Romney opposes both decriminalization and physician-recommended access to medical cannabis.

The Washington Times story, along with video of the two appearances referenced above, are available online at: http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080131/NATION/896961936/-1/RSS_NATION_PO.

“I think the war on drugs has been a failure, and I think we need to rethink and decriminalize our marijuana laws.”

Now this is interesting; Presidential candidate Barack Obama made a statement about a week and a half ago (January 31st) clarifying his position on Marijuana decriminalization. Video of him at Northwestern University in 2004 showed a pro-decriminalization Obama; forward-thinking, and clear about his intentions. However, in a video from 2007, when asked for a show of hands on who supported Sen. Chris Dodd’s proposal for legalization, Obama seems unsure and only raises his hand halfway before lowering it back down.

Well, in this statement (from January 31st) Obama’s campaign clears the smoke, saying:

“[An Obama administration] will review drug sentences to see where we can be smarter on crime and reduce the blind and counterproductive sentencing of non-violent offenders.”

Seems pretty clear, right? Well, evidently this is not so–Obama retracted his “pro-decriminalization” statement to The Washington Times about 24 hours later. They then made it clear that Senator Obama doesn’t endorse eliminating criminal penalties for marijuana, and that the back-and-forth was due to confusion of the meaning of “decriminalization”. Obama’s latests position on the issue reads:

“If you’re convicted of a crime, you should be punished, but that we are sending far too many first-time, nonviolent drug users to prison for very long periods of time, and that we should rethink those laws”

So…that means that Hilary is anti-pot, Obama is slightly less anti-pot, McCain is anti-pot, and Mitt Romney is anti-pot/anti-MEDICAL pot. So whoever you vote for, don’t let it be Romney.

Who’s the best still running? Probably Ron Paul. He has always been clear on his position–he would end the Drug War. Pretty clear, eh?
